ISSMA State details: Saturday, February 26, 2022

 Tips for ISSMA State (revised from HYP Booster President announcement)
– String solo and ensemble take place throughout the day on Saturday, February 26, 2022.  Performance times and rooms will be distributed to students at school.
– All of the string events take place in Northview Middle School, which is on the north side of Indianapolis, at 8401 Westfield Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46240.   It’s about 1.5 hours from Bloomington.
– Traffic is heavy and parking is difficult, so plan to get there extra early.
– All warmups take place in the gym.
– The area has a lot of restaurants nearby.

HYP Trip 2022!

We are excited to announce that the Hoosier Youth Philharmonic will be competing in the Music In The Parks Festival at Kentucky Kingdom on Saturday, May 21st!

Important Dates to Remember:
  • February 9    Commitment form and parent consent form with parent signature and $20 due. Payment may be cash or check made out to HYP. Students give forms and payment to Ms. E during Orchestra.
  • February 23rd   Final payment of $50 due to Ms. E during Orchestra.
Details:
We will leave early on May 21st and return to Bloomington that night.
This year students are not required to have earned merits in order to participate in the spring trip.
The HYP boosters have generously offered to pay for Go Express coach buses, so the student cost is quite low.
Parents who wish to drive down and see the performance are welcomed!  You may also wish to make plans to go to Kentucky Kingdom.
We are hoping all HYP students can perform and enjoy a day in the park with us!
After two years with no trip, we are overjoyed to share this memorable experience with our wonderful students!

Fall Concert: Save the Date!

We are thrilled to share that the Hoosier Youth Philharmonic will make it’s first appearance at Switchyard Park for our annual Fall Concert. Bring a picnic and blanket or lawn chair to enjoy beautiful music in this lovely outdoor venue, located on Bloomington’s south side.

Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 7pm (students arrive 6:30pm)

Location: 1601 S Rogers St, Bloomington, IN 47403

Rain date: Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 7pm (students arrive 6:30pm)

*HYP musicians will need to supply their own music stand, chair, and fasteners for their sheet music such as clothes pins.

Apply Now for the Jane A Gouker Endowment Fund!

The Jane A Gouker Endowment Fund through the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County will be offering two $250 scholarships to current members of the Hoosier Youth Philharmonic. One scholarship will be awarded to a Bloomington HS North musician, and one to a Bloomington HS South musician. The scholarship money must be used for reasons associated with the Hoosier Youth Philharmonic. Examples would be instrument rental fees, outfit deposit fee, individual’s private lessons on an orchestral instrument, the required trip cost, etc. Awarded monies will be issued directly to the recipient’s requested need, and not to the student, or student’s family. Awarded monies will be divided into 2 payments.

2021 Night of Musical Celebration

On May 20, 2021, HYP performed the annual Night of Musical Celebration concert. This year marked a first time performing on the BHSS Football Field. It was a beautiful evening to gather, listen to the music, and celebrate our seniors. Max Riggle was presented with the National School Orchestra Award for BHS North and Anna Wrasse was named the National School Orchestra Award winner for BHS South. Their names have been engraved on the NSO plaque hanging in each school.Congratulations to Max, Anna, and all members of HYP for your perseverance and hard work this very challenging year!

2021 Thomas Moeller Memorial Scholarship

Applications are now underway for the 2021 Thomas Moeller Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship may be accessed at this link:

HYP’s Anna Wrasse was awarded the 2020 Thomas Moeller Memorial Scholarship from the Community Foundation of Monroe County. Anna used scholarship funds to complete her third album of original music, “Anywhere.”.

Purpose: To provide music scholarships/grants to high school students – grades 10 to 12 who reside in Monroe County and wish to pursue music endeavors. Examples of expenses eligible for this scholarship award include, but are not limited to, rental or purchase of a musical instrument, music lessons, fees for musical competition, recording projects, vocal lessons, tuition for music camp (college tuition/fees for music and/or music education major may be considered)

Eligibility Criteria:
High school student – grades 10 to 12
Monroe County resident
Clear direction towards music or music education profession
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

Components in online application
Brief statement describing your musical career goals
Brief statement on what you are requesting this scholarship for (example – to purchase musical instrument or camp registration, etc.)

Brief statement of financial need (why you need this scholarship)
One page essay describing how this scholarship/grant will help you achieve a goal you might not otherwise achieve
2-3 letters of support; at least one from music teacher/instructor (school or private) and one from employer, minister, volunteer coordinator, club sponsor, etc.

Scholarship recipients will be chosen from applicants based on:
the applicant’s desire to seek a music profession (particular attention given to applicants seeking music education)
demonstrated initiative
demonstrated talent
financial need may be a consideration

Award Amount: Up to $900.00.
