Dress Rehearsal September 26th

The first HYP rehearsal is Wednesday, September 26 in the BHSS Orchestra Room (enter door 22). Rehearsal time is dependent on instrument played:

  • 7-8 pm: 1st and 2nd Violins
  • 8-9 pm: Viola, Cello, Bass

This is a dress rehearsal which means students should come dressed in their formal outfits. Everyone should have already tried on outfits for proper fit. Please contact Marcia Campbell or Kelly Stegemoller immediately if your outfit needs adjustments so we can have new sizes available to try on if needed. If you don’t have your outfit yet or think you need alterations, please arrive 15 minutes prior to your rehearsal time so we can have students exchange or try on new outfits. Also, if you have not yet paid your $100 outfit fee, please do so or contact Mr. Hansen or Ms. Enzinger as soon as possible.

We will be checking in with each student Wednesday night. If students anticipate needing to exchange a piece or have an alteration made to their outfit, they will need to leave it with us Wednesday night and therefore should bring a change of clothes (including shoes). Below is a list of the HYP formal concert attire that should be worn to the dress rehearsal.

Girls: Black skirt and top, black and gold cummerbund, black hose, black closed-toe dress shoes. Undergarment straps shouldn’t be visible, no racerback sports bras please.

Boys: Black tuxedo pants and jacket, white tuxedo shirt with black studs, bowtie and cummerbund, black socks, black dress shoes.

Please also try on your black polo shirt in the back pocket of your garment bag to check for proper fit. It you need to exchange this or any items, please bring them along to the rehearsal in your garment bag. If you need instructions on how to wear your outfit, please click here.

Outfit Distribution and Instructions

It’s HYP outfit distribution time! Below are two options for picking up orchestra outfits. Students will need this outfit for their first dress rehearsal this month, Wednesday, September 26th, so it is very important that these are picked up on one of the two dates below. Students do not need to be present to pick up outfits. A friend or family member can pick them up. If you haven’t paid the one-time $100 outfit fee please bring a check made out to HYP or cash with exact change.

2018-2019 HYP outfit distribution

  • Monday, September 17th, in the Bloomington South Orchestra room (enter south door 22 near football field) from 6-8pm
  • Wednesday, September 19th in the Bloomington South Orchestra room from 3-5pm

Upon receiving your outfit, please try on all pieces to check for proper fit, including your polo shirt. Cummerbunds, bow ties and pants waists are adjustable. Pant length, jacket sleeve length, skirt length can be altered, but please do not cut off material or use iron-on hem tape. Please contact someone from the outfit committee as soon as possible to let us know about any issues you are having with your outfit.

Studding Your Tuxedo Shirt (Tuxedo shirts have been pre-studded)
Shirts have specially designed stud holes and you’ll find them located right next to the button. Studs should be worn in the first 3 or 4 holes of your shirt, not including the collar button. Each stud should first be fed through the back stud hole on the shirt. Ignore the pearl button that may be present on your shirt. It is not needed if studs are worn. With the stud acting as a button, feed it through the front button hole in the shirt. This will secure the shirt front closed. Please remove studs before washing or dry cleaning.

Outfit Care and Cleaning
Skirt/Top: Tops and skirts should be machine washed warm, no bleach, and tumbled dry low after each use. Cool iron as necessary. Skirt and top need to be dry cleaned once at the end of the year before turning in your outfit.
Tux: Shirts should be washed or dry cleaned after every performance. Jacket and pants should be dry cleaned 2-3 times per year. Shirt, jacket and pants need to be dry cleaned at the end of the year before turning in your outfit. Bowties and cummerbunds should not be washed but can be dry cleaned as needed.

For questions or assistance with alterations please contact outfit committee members:
