HYP Spring Trip 2020 – Nashville!
On March 26-29, 2020 HYP will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to take part in the Worldstrides Heritage Festival.
Itinerary and Trip Details
The trip dates are March 26-29. Students will leave Thursday 3/26 mid-day, travel by charter bus, return Sunday mid-afternoon. They will thus spend 3 nights in a hotel. We are still working on the itinerary, which will likely include the following:
– Country Music Hall of Fame
– The Parthenon (replica built in 1897): will take group photo
– Master-class with a group of music clinicians by section, 60-90 minutes
– Performance: 30-35 minutes in front of 3 judges, with warm-up. After playing for judges, will have a 15-minute clinic with one of the judges
– Final night: special festival dinner, awards ceremony, and dance (line-dancing at cowboy-themed Wildhorse Saloon, largest dance floor in Nashville, and regular dancing)
Parents are encouraged to come to Nashville to hear the concert. The award ceremony, however, is a closed event. The other sightseeing events or meals are really intended just for the students, as the chaperones have to be in charge at all times.
Payment total is $500: $200 due Jan. 9/10, $200 due Feb. 6/7, $100 or $200 due March 6/7. Payments are not refundable, sign a binding a contract to pay the total. If a student drops out of the tour, they still have to pay, because the festival/hotels/bus fees are non-refundable. Checks can be made out to HYP. Students must earn 2 full merits by March 1, if not done, will cost an extra $100. Orchestra presidents can tell students at any time how many merits they have.
HYP Spring Trip 2019 – New Orleans!
April 10-14, 2019, the HYP traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana. HYP had a 90-minute clinic before competing in the Heritage World Strides Festival. On the sightseeing itinerary were: Garden District, Jackson Square, French Quarter, Oak Alley Plantation, Mardis Gras World, National World War II Museum and Cafe Du Monde. On the final evening of the trip HYP attended an awards banquet and masquerade ball. Congratulations to HYP on bringing home wonderful memories, a gold rating, top orchestra honors, and an invitation to play at an honors festival next year in a major city!
