YOU Can Support
the Elementary Strings Program
In February 2010, the Elementary Strings Program did not escape the budgetary axe brought on by the nearly $6 million budget shortfall suffered by the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC).THe Elementary Strings Program is a unique education program among Indiana's public schools in which 5th and 6th grade elementary students receive professional instruction, before regular school hours in violin, viola, cello and bass. This age is a critical time in the development a young musicians' education. This early training gives students a tremendous advantage by the time they reach Jr. High.
During the 7th and 8th grade years, students practice everyday as part of their normal school day. Thanks to the Elementary Strings Program, they are able to accelerate their musical abilities.By the time students reach high school they are performing at an elevated level and truly enjoying the fruits of their labors! The combined orchestra of Bloomington's North and South High Schools, the Hoosier Youth Philharmonic is an award winning orchestra that performs many concerts for the community each year and, in 2009, performed at the 65th Anniversary Celebration of the Allied Invasion in Normandy, France. The Elementary Strings Program is vital to the success of the HYP and its young musicians!
