Orchestra Outfits

Orchestra students at BHSN or BHSS have the opportunity to participate with three different performing groups during the course of the school year in addition to the ISSMA solo and ensemble competition. Each of the three performing groups has its own uniform or outfit.

$50 fee for all first-year HYP students - fee is only assessed once per student and includes up to four years rental for HYP/Orchestra Outfit and purchase of the student's HYP Shirt.

HYP Outfit:

Girls: black skirt

white tuxedo shirt

black/gold tie

black/gold cummerbund

Boys: black tuxedo pants

BHSN and BHSS Orchestras:

When the individual school orchestras perform, the boys wear the HYP outfit. The girls wear the HYP outfit but wear colored ties and sashes as follows:

BHSN Girls: maroon ties and sashes

BHSS Girls: purple ties and sashes

Special Ensembles/Spring Tour: HYP Shirt:

Students participating in special ensembles wear a green polo shirt with the HYP logo. Khakis, jeans or jean skirts can be worn with the HYP shirt. Jeans must be clean and not torn or ragged.

The HYP outfit is worn for performances during the spring tour. The HYP shirt is worn for special events or awards ceremonies during the spring tour.

Care and Cleaning of the HYP Outfit:

Pant length, jacket sleeve length, skirt length and skirt waist can be altered, but please do not cut off material. Most pants have an adjustable waist. If you need assistance, please contact the wardrobe chair. If any parts are missing or need repair, notify the wardrobe chair as soon as possible and don't wait until the day of a concert.

Shirts should be washed or dry cleaned after every performance. Skirts should be washed or dry cleaned when soiled but at least 3 - 4 times per year. Boys' jackets and pants should be dry cleaned 2 - 3 times per year. Ties or cummerbunds should not be washed but can be dry cleaned if needed.

The HYP Outfit will be provided on hangers in a garment bag. It should be stored on hangers in the garment bag between performances. Whenever the outfit is transported, it should be in the garment bag. Outfits may be worn to and from performances, but should not be worn for set up or tear down. Outfits are not to be worn for other functions not sponsored by the orchestra.

End of Year:

The HYP and orchestra outfits must be returned at the end of each school year, clean, on the hanger and in the garment bag. If parts are missing or the outfit hasn't been cleaned, the following charges apply:

Cummerbund: $15

Shirt: $25

Tuxedo Pants: $40

Tuxedo Jacket: $50

Dry Cleaning: $15

Tie: $10

Sash: $6

Skirt: $30

Bag: $10
